Frequently Asked Questions

  • Unpopular opinion: You shouldn’t give your kids a puppy on Christmas morning. Yep, we said it.

When puppies leave our home they are leaving the only place they have ever known, our family and pets, their littermates, and their mother. They are often traveling the longest distance they have ever traveled to their new home, all in the same day! It’s true that puppies learn quickly who their real family is. It’s actually really amazing. Still, imagine how a toddler would do in a situation with all that change at once. Go home day is a BIG deal for puppies! Now take all of that change and add in the chaos of Christmas morning. Yikes!

There is nothing cuter than a puppy Christmas surprise for kids, but when the excitement is over, the house is wrecked, the parents are exhausted, and Aunt Margie just arrived with her special jello for Christmas dinner, where does that leave puppy?

Puppy go home day should be as calm, peaceful, and routine-filled as possible. Basically…the exact opposite of Christmas morning.

We are all about what is best for the puppy from the time we are comparing health genetics of mom and dad (before puppies are even born), until the time puppies are no longer in our care. These little lives are a big responsibility and not something we take lightly.

NOW… we are all for the surprise gift of a puppy. We consider this one of the best Christmas gifts someone can receive. You can still wrap up an ornament, stuffed animal, video from us, or framed picture and give your family the surprise of their lives. The bonus is they will have a couple of weeks to prepare and anticipate, but not too long to wait.

See what we mean?! Perfect timing!

  • A 10/10 red coat in a Goldendoodle is considered rare due to the specific genetic combination required to achieve such an intense and uniform shade of red. Coat color is influenced by the genes inherited from the Poodle and Golden Retriever ancestors, both of which can carry a variety of color genes. You've probably seen Goldendoodles that are brown, apricot, cream, etc. They are all darling! But to get a deep, vibrant red coat, especially so far down from the original F1 parents (Ruby and Dax are multigenerational Goldendoodles), they must pass on recessive genes for that color, and even then, the resulting shade can vary. To genetically be 10/10's and also visibly very dark red (like Ruby and Dax) is a very good sign that their coats will carry their color. Typical red coats can fade over time due to a process called “progressive graying,” which is common in Poodles. Maintaining the deep red hue without fading often requires careful breeding and honestly... luck, making the perfect 10/10 red coat a rarity. These doods won the red genetics lottery! I0/10 does not guarantee that the puppy will always be deep red, only time will tell us that, but it is definitely working in their favor to carry those intense red genes. Ruby and Dax are basically unicorn parents when it comes to their red coats. Just imagine what their puppies are going to look like!

  • Yes! Our goal is to provide happy, healthy dogs from our family to yours.

Our Mamas and all the studs we use are health tested completely. Sometimes sellers will claim they have health tested their dogs without actually completing all the tests because they know buyers don’t know what tests to ask about. We were very thorough and are happy to make the test results public. We want to do everything possible to make sure mom is healthy before puppies come into the world. Moms live inside our home and are our cherished pets, irreplaceable members of our family. When considering breeding, we want to make sure moms don't pass anything along to puppies that would negatively affect them in the future. We also want to check for their own health. Doing tests ahead of time doesn’t guarantee mother dogs will have 100% perfect puppies. There is no such thing as a perfect dog. However, testing before breeding does help eliminate possible problems down the road. It is the most respectful thing to do for the animal, and the most responsible thing to do for our buyers.

Health tests can take years to complete, (and they are expensive!), but the peace of mind is absolutely priceless.

We will only use studs that are completely health tested. Beyond health, we also analyze their genetics when paired with Pearl’s. We consider size, temperament, and coat traits, among other things. We will only use studs that have loving families of their own.

Here is a list of tests we do for our mammas and watch for when considering studs:

OFA Heart: This test is vet certified and shows there are no heart disorders.

OFA Elbows: Report watches for elbow displasia.

OFA Eyes: We travel to a different state in order for our moms to visit a Veterinarian Ophthalmologist. She is a specialist veterinarian and can detect if there are any eye issues.

Penn Hip: This test measures the degree of laxity in hips. Results help us determine what kind of risk moms have to develop hip problems or pass problems to their puppies.

Embark DNA Analysis: “Every Embark tests examines over 200,000 genetic markers and provides results for over 230 genetic health conditions” - Per Embark DNA Website. Pearl passed with flying colors.

We would be happy to show the official health test results to anyone interested.

  • Pearl is an F1 which means she is the first generation of a mix. She is 50% Bernese Mountain Dog, and 50% Poodle. When we mix F1 Pearl with a purebreed dad (a Poodle for example), this creates F1b Bernedoodle puppies that will be 75% Poodle and 25% Bernese Mountain Dog.

Ruby is a multigen Goldendoodle. A multigen puppy is a puppy who has two doodle parents (neither parents are purebreds).

  • Because we operate this business out of our home, we cannot allow people to come in and out. This would not be ideal for our family life, nor would it be best for the health of the puppies. We will update our instagram page @meadowlark_park and our website as often as possible so you can get to know the puppies there. Once a non-refundable deposit is made, we will be glad to Facetime and send videos so you can get to know the puppies. Picking order is determined by the order in which we receive deposits. We highly recommend following our Instagram page. We try to post updates often if not daily there which will give you the chance to get to know the puppies ahead of puppy pick day. You are welcome to visit your puppy in person on puppy pick day which will be on a day we determine. If you are from out of state and for whatever reason are unable to visit the puppies in person, we'd be glad to use Facetime, Zoom, etc. so you can see the puppies. Our goal is to make you comfortable in this process. We value excellent customer service and communication, and overall, we want you to have an amazing experience picking out your puppy!

  • There is no such thing as a hypo-allergenic dog. However, our puppies are about as close as you can get. Our moms are non-shedding and so are the studs we use. Puppies coats will likely be either wavy or straight. We choose studs with amazing coats on purpose! We have had several puppy families with past allergy issues who have had no problem with their new puppies.

As for our November 2024 Ruby litter, we are expecting solid reds, red abstracts (red with white tuxedo markings), and possibly some partis (white with red spots...think red spotted dairy cow).

  • We can’t predict this completely, but we do have a good idea on the size based on mom and dad’s weight and lines they come from. Ruby is 9 pounds. Dax is 15 pounds. This will put our puppy weight range at 10-20 pounds full grown. Perfect Micro/Toy size! Not too small and not too big!

One of the reasons we prefer F1b and multigen puppies as opposed to F1’s, is that F1’s are a first mix of a purebreed (For example, a Golden Retriever and a Poodle). If the Golden Retreiver is 80 pounds and the poodle is 8 pounds, this creates a big possible weight range determined by whether they inherit mostly mom’s size genes or dad’s. When we start with smaller dogs with good genes that retain all the best traits of their breeds, the range is tighter and more predictable. That being said, we can make guesses and predictions about weight, but ultimately nature is in charge. Sometimes there are surprises and that keeps things interesting!

It’s always fun to see what sizes of puppies we get! We can tell pretty early on if they are going to be on the low or high end of the weight range.

  • We use BAB Care and Advanced Curriculum. This means we do ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation). This improves cardiovascular health, promotes stronger adrenal glands, tolerance to stress, and greater resistance to disease. We also do ESI (Early Scent Introduction). This promotes nose awareness which equals confidence. These practices start on day 3 of life and are crucial for their development and progression.

We also do a ten step handling exercise that gets puppies used to be poked, prodded, squeezed, kissed and loved. It’s a tough job kissing puppies to death each day but somehow we survive.

We start the steps to potty train very early on around 3 weeks or so. Because of this early training, you will be amazed at how quickly they catch on once you get them home. Potty training takes work, and it will take consistency and diligence as a puppy parent, but these puppies will have an amazing head start!

Puppies will have new novelty items each day as they get older and will be well socialized with different ages of humans and all types of animals on our farm.

We expose them to different music and do noise desensitization as well to prepare them for busy (loud) households.

They will be introduced to a crate so that it’s not new when they need to go to the vet or on a long car ride.

Simply put, our goal is to prepare the puppies for the unexpected.

Our promise is to do everything in our power to send you home with a happy, healthy, well-adjusted puppy. The rest is up to you!

  • Puppies will be ready to go home when they are eight weeks old. Puppies need every single day of those eight weeks with their mother and littermates to learn and grow.

You can pick your puppy up at our farm, we can meet you at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport, or we can send your puppy anywhere in the US with a flight nanny for additional cost (usually around $600). We work with several companies that are reputable, loving, and trustworthy. This can be a fairly inexpensive way to get a puppy delivered straight to your arms, anywhere in the U.S. without having to travel. We have also had puppy families fly into the Salt Lake City airport, rent a car, and drive the three hours to Idaho Falls for a cheaper option than flying directly into Idaho Falls. We’d love to discuss your options with you!
